A: In Lexington it is. Our Community Choice program has supplied more than 10,000 residents and businesses with 100% renewable electricity for the past year and a half while saving Lexington customers over $2.3 million compared to Eversource Basic Service rates. Eversource expects to raise their Basic Service rates for January – June 2019 to $0.13794 /kWh. Lexington’s 100% Green Community Choice offering, which is the option most Lexington customers are enrolled in, will change to $0.11624 /kWh, or about 15% lower than Eversource’s Basic Service rate. An average Lexington customer using 750 kWh of electricity a month would save about $15.60 per month for the first half of 2019 compared to Eversource Basic Service rates for that period.

Lexington’s New England Green option, which provides 100% Class I renewable electricity from projects located in New England, will change to $0.12428 /kWh or about 10% lower than the Eversource Basic Service rate. An average Lexington customer using 750 kWh of electricity a month would save about $9.50 per month for the first half of 2019 compared to Eversource Basic Service rates for that period.

Customers who choose the New England Green option will receive 100% local renewable electricity that was all generated in New England, and still save money compared with Eversource’s Basic Service. Making this choice will encourage the development of new renewable energy projects in New England and the jobs that go with them. A: Take a look at your Eversource bill. If your says Supplier (Constellation NewEnergy) then you are enrolled in the Community Choice program. If you aren’t enrolled in the program, check your rate to determine whether you’d like to switch. The Community Choice rate is fixed for the next 24 months, so you can relax. There is no charge to join the program and you can cancel at anytime without any cancelation fees.
