Letter by Keith Ohmart – former co-president, Citizens for Lexington Conservation (CLC)

I am writing to share my endorsement of Mark Sandeen for Selectman. I am an enthusiastic fan of Mark and what he has accomplished chairing the Sustainable Lexington Committee. I consider Mark’s work chairing this committee to be an outstanding example of the talent and qualities that he will bring to Lexington’s Board of Selectmen.

Consider the achievements of the Sustainable Lexington Committee, such as the Net Zero Plan, the revenue producing solar array at the transfer station, and the savings to electricity ratepayers brought about by the Community Choice Aggregation Program. Now consider what it took to bring them about. A group of highly talented individuals had to be recruited and then forged into a team focused on an agreed upon agenda. A program of achievable goals needed to be selected from what, to most of us, was an overwhelmingly large and complex body of available data. And lastly, a diverse array of Town boards and committees needed to be persuaded to accept the recommendations being proposed.

The managerial and interpersonal skills that Mark brought to this work, which made these achievements possible, are the same skills he will bring to service on the Board of Selectmen. Understanding the complexities of town government, ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and committees, the ability to identify achievable goals for large and complex issues– these are traits that we need in our elected officials, and which Mark has demonstrated admirably.

I urge you to join me in voting for Mark Sandeen for selectman on March 4th.

Keith Ohmart
